Dear MHAF,

We would like to thank you all for making home ownership possible for my wife and I. I served in the U.S. Army for 9 years and spent 16 months in Iraq where I was injured in combat from a mortar attack where I received shrapnel to my head and body. I spent years in and out of the VA hospital trying to recover from these injuries. Most of my life was spent on the road traveling and moving from place to place because of the military.

United States Military Housing Assistance

Finally with the help of MHAF my wife and I have been able to “set roots” in one place. We were able to purchase and build our first home that we now enjoy so dearly. Having a place to call home certainly helps with recovery. Thank you MHAF for making this dream a reality.

Memorial Day 2013

So What’s Memorial Day All About?

Every year, the end of May marks a transition for Americans. We transition out of hibernation and into summer-mode. We break out the barbecues, throw on the sun block, mow the lawn, and pump up the bike tires. Yes, Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial mark of Summer.

Memorial Day is a Day to Remember

Yet, it’s so incredibly important to remember what Memorial Day is; It is a time to remember those who have served as military men and women. It is a time to honor those lost, and a time to commemorate everything that America stands for. We at the United States Military Housing Association are so grateful for the men and women who serve TODAY and will forever be grateful for the millions of soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom.

Join USMHAF in A Moment of Silence

We ask you to take a moment with us at 3:00pm today to remember those lost, and thank your countrymen for all they have given you. We will be pausing in a moment of silence to remember the men and women who have served to protect our freedom. If you can not do it today, do it tomorrow. If you can’t pause tomorrow, pause EVERY DAY, and remember those who gave everything for your freedom.

We leave you with the wise words of Chief Tecumseh, also known as the Poem from Act of Valor, the movie:

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”
